This ready-to-use training package is designed to provide HIV providers (including physicians, dentists, nurses, therapists, social workers, counselors, specialists, and case managers) with an overview of the challenges and strategies for change in working with individuals living with HIV/AIDS and a diagnosis of a substance use disorder. Specifically this training covers the definition and guiding principles of recovery for people with a substance use disorder, explores the four stage recovery process and how it intertwines with the HIV care continuum, examines the impact of intersecting HIV and SUD-related stigmas, and considers ways to provide care and support throughout the recovery process. The training package contains PowerPoint presentations including pre- and post- knowledge checks, a case study and discussion questions, a trainer guide, and a takeaway fact sheet for clinicians.
